This song I wrote in 2004 after watching a brilliant documentary made by Producer Malcolm Brinkworth at Touch Productions and Broadcast on BBC2 to national acclaim, it was called Afghan Warrior. The BBC should repeat it and put it on BBC1 at prime time – take Eastenders off one night and let the country watch it again to see the charade behind the Afghan / Iran / Taliban / Al Queda conflict.
I sent Malcolm Brinkworth an early demo of the song – recorded with just me on acoustic guitar at my mates house, I sent him a copy of the new EP as well – he contacted me about the song and said ‘It’s a great track and I’m glad the film made an impact on you. Thanks for the CD hope it goes from strength to strength.’
Tell Me Please, Is This How The West Was Won?
(Tribute to Abdul Haq)
Abdul Haq was a freedom fighter – through the Russian campaign,
Hailed by the west as a kinda’ - Mujahadeen John Wayne.
Need’s support for his uprising – to rid Afghanistan,
Of oppression hate & war – known as the Taliban
Tell me please, is this how the west was won?
Tell me please, is this how the west was won?
See the CIA can’t see no further than their nose,
The Bush fire it burns outa’ control,
The dollar Bill (Clinton) had fed the fire,
And the flames of madness just got higher and higher,
It’s just another example of something going on in my name – but not with my blessing,
It’s just another example of something going on in my name – but not with my blessing.
Tell me please, is this how the west was won?
Tell me please, is this how the west was won?
GUITAR
Abdul fought for freedom – not to wear a collar.
Off the Stars & Stripes bought with Uncle Sam’s dollar,
The Bush fires raging - GI Joe grabs his gun,
His message blurred (Blaired) and the deed was done,
It’s just another example of something going on in my name – but not with my blessing,
It’s just another example of something going on in my name – but not with my blessing.
Abdul fought for - JUSTICE & RIGHTS
For his war torn – PEOPLE IN FLIGHT
CIA AIN’T GOT NO HONOUR,
BUYING THEIR DEMANDS WITH UNCLE SAM’S DOLLAR
(repeat all X 2)
(ad lib)
(Dollar Bill) – You’re making me ill, with your dollar bill – yeh you’re making me ill,
We’re getting blurred (Blaired) baloney, from the mouth of Tony – yeh, getting blurred baloney, from the mouth of Tony yeh,
It’s just another example of something going on in my name, but not with my blessing
It’s just another example of something going on in my name, but not with my blessing,
So stop your messing – you ain’t got my blessing,
Stop your messing – you ain’t got my blessing
Tell me please, is this how the west was won?
Tell me please, is this how the west was won?
(ad lib to end)
