An acoustically driven culturally organic musical groove monster.
A song of mine dating back to 2006 (with an affectionate nod towards one of my favourite 'old school' type footballers Tony Brown 'hit your volley hard and true, like Tony Brown he used to do' and another mention of political frustration with the line 'politicians giving spin - hoping that we'll take it in'.
The song also reflects the multi-cultural variety of the region and gives a musical landscape to our wonderful mix of cultures and diversity. Instrument wise it consists of acoustic guitars, slide guitar, sitar, bass, percussion and wonderful Dhol and Tabla drums from the brilliant West Brom based Raj Sahota of the world famous Bangra fusion band The Sahota's.
lyrics
Take The Money and Run My Dear
Take the money and run my dear,
Discover ways to hide your fears – and,
Play the part of Bonnie & Clyde.
Go swing your hips from side to side,
Hit your volley hard and true – like,
Tony Brown he used to do – well,
You can shout and cuss and bawl,
Well you can curtsey, you can fall my dear…you can fall my dear.
Are we just a hopeless case now,
Or will we find a place now,
Or will we line the walls, and wait until the captains call,
Well here’s to dancing I raise my glass,
And those that listen I tip my hat,
Now Joe and Gina you have a ball,
Hold on tight and grab it all my dear…grab it all my dear.
(change)
Well then we ring the changes and call for truth,
We talk to elders and hear the youth,
And we put our trust in God and Love…
And then we ask ‘is that enough’?
We got politicians giving spin,
Hoping that we’ll take it in,
Can we hope to give and take, can we call the plays and can we still eat cake…my dear?
(Repeat 1st verse)
(change)
Then you run – so wild,
Yes you run, so free,
Oh you run – so wild,
Hey girl there’s a fool, there’s a fool in me, in me, in me…
I just gotta’ ask you now…
(Repeat 2nd verse)
Grab it all my dear…grab it all my dear
Doo do do do …adlib to end
